Profile Information

Professional info
Software Engineer
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Environmental Satellite Data and Information Service (NESDIS),
Aug 1997 – Dec 2007
• Served as Project Manager for the upgrade to the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES) Archive System (GAS) (Oct 2006 - Dec 2007)
• Served as GAS sw lead, including maintaining db in Oracle. This involved correcting, implementing, & maintaining sw enhancements using C++, & preparing sw releases using SourceSafe (Sept 2001 - Dec 2007)
• Served as backup to the sw lead for the GOES I through M Telemetry and Command System (GIMTACS) & the Orbit and Attitude Tracking System (OATS) (Aug 1997 - Dec 2007)
• Served as testing lead for the Office of Satellite Operations (OSO) Software Branch. This involved publishing the generic test plan, sample test procedure, & testing policy for the branch. Also, I reviewed tests plans for all parts of the satellites ground systems, & attended formal testing as the OSO Software Branch representative. This testing was preformed on Windows, VAX, & UNIX machines; the code was written in C, C++, Fortran, & assembly languages. (Aug 2004 - May 2006)
• Designed, implemented, & maintained the GIMTACS scheduling sw to support rapid imager & sounder scan operations as requested by the National Weather Service. This involved extracting the appropriate operation & scan sector from the OATS update request and retrieving the sector information from the db. This also required creating the flat-file db & the tool to access it. Rapid imager scan: Aug 1999. Sounder scan: Jan 2000
• Designed, implemented, & maintained the GIMTACS command and scheduling sw to support GOES operations at Fairbanks, AK. This involved expanding the current schedule validation to utilize new flat-file db for scan registers in the western Pacific (Aug – Dec 2002)

Software Engineer
Lockheed Martin Space Mission Systems & Services / Loral AeroSys,
June 1993 – Aug 1997
• Designed & maintained the GIMTACS command & scheduling subsystems (May 1994 - Aug 1997)
• Designed, implemented, & maintained the GIMTACS command & scheduling sw to support Motor Winding Operations (MWO). This involved extracting the set names and epoch times of the three Image Motion Compensation (IMC) MWO sets & storing them in displayable globals. When a MWO schedule is updated, the appropriate set names will be inserted into the schedule. The globals are also saved in the checkpoint file & preserved during failover (Jan 1997)
• Designed, implemented, & maintained the GIMTACS workstation sw to support telemetry retrieval by Flight Dynamics (FDF). This involved extracting the ground receipt time (GRT) & the current values for each of the requested mnemonics from each Intermediate Storage Area (ISA) update. This data is written in a data packet & sent to the HP workstation through a socket using the TCP/IP protocol & the C programming language (Nov 1996)
• Analyzed & corrected OATS user interface sw problems for the GOES satellites using C++ (Aug 1995 - Jan 1996)
• Designed & maintained the command & scheduling subsystems for the N-STAR satellites (June 1993 - May 1994)

Computer Lab Consultant
Computer Science Department, Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (VPI & SU),
May 1992- May 1993
• Assisted undergraduate students with programming, general hardware, & sw related problems
• Monitored student access to & use of lab equipment

Summer Technical Student
Langley Aerospace Research Summer Scholars Program,
NASA Langley Research Center, Computer Applications Branch, Hampton, VA,
June 1991 - Aug 1991
• Evaluated & enhanced Grid Generation & 3-D Surface Definition programs in FORTRAN in the Grid Geometry Lab (GEOLAB)
• Evaluated & compared two Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) visualization packages used in GEOLAB
• Updated the db of users of symbolic algebra
Interests
swimming, diving, water sports, knitting, crocheting, photography, scrap booking, stamping
